14 Good Reasons to Take

Over the past decade there has been an expanding
public awareness of the value of herbs and natural products in maintaining
optimal health.
Modern mainstream medicine has offered us high tech
diagnostic procedures such as CT or MRI scans, as well as dramatic feats
of surgery such as arterial grafts, and laser ocular surgery. In the field
of pharmaceuticals, we have potent compounds which can zap various
microbes, alleviate pain, kill malignant cells, or alter the brain's
functioning in a favorable way. All of this, however, is far from utopian.
With some drugs, for every favorable effect, one has to tolerate some
annoying, and possibly dangerous side effects. The more potent a compound
is, the more likely it wjill have serious side effects. Although herbal
products cannot be sold as drugs to treat specific conditions without long
and expensive government licensing, the properties of most herbs have been
well studied and documented over centuries.
The standard medical answer to the question of
supplements is, "If you eat a balanced diet, you don't need supplements."
If we could only breathe clean air, drink unpolluted water free of
chemicals, eat fresh fruits, nuts, seeds, and vegetables untainted by
pesticides or chemical fertilizers, lean game meat and fish from healthy
species, then perhaps we would not need supplements!
Herbalism
tends to favor prevention more than cure, and uses extracts of the whole
plant. This usually means that herbs are more gentle in their action than
potent drugs. There are anti-septic, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, as
well as anti-aging herbs. Additionally, there are herbs that stimulate the
immune system, relax the body and mind, stimulate the brain, promote blood
flow, help the liver get rid of toxins, preserve certain hormones, cleanse
the urinary system, increase cardiac output, prevent hypertension, relieve
menstrual or menopausal symptoms, improve the mood, and stop migranes.
Although there may be side effects from some of these compounds, they are
usually less noxious than those of drugs. And, even conservative doctors,
as they age, are starting to discover the value of supplements, both to
prevent illness, and to treat those that exist.
The thoughtful individual may choose to practice
preventive medicine, to use the gentle power of herbs in daily life, and
be able to avoid expensive, dangerous surgical or pharmacological
treatments. It is a subject worth examining, for the good of your health.
Frank P. Iozzi, D.C.
As a chiropractic doctor for some 40 years, I have
always been interested in the healing properties of herbs. I believe that
herbs were not placed here on Earth by chance, but on purpose.
Although still controversial to conventional doctors,
more and more people are turning to herbs as an alternative, or in
addition to the most modern of medicines.
The knowledge and use of herbs goes back to early
history when they were the only medicine available. Throughout centuries
various cultures cultivated and used herbs for food, ointments, cosmetics
and for good health and healing.
My travels through Europe made me realize that great
advancements have been made in the use of herbs for nutrition. Although
the use of herbs is not as prevalent in North America, we have traveled a
long road to education and acceptance of what has been recognized by many
people for centuries.
More and more people are discovering the advantages of
herbs and herbal remedies in preventative health care. In the future, we
will see an ever-increasing trend towards the use of herbs to help
achieve and maintain good health.
I believe that we will continue to uncover knowledge
about the power of herbs which I feel will improve the quality of our
health and well being.
I wish all good health, happiness, and prosperity.
