Jack and Joan
Arens joined Matol in October 1985. Truly one of the pioneers in this company,
Jack remembers life before Matol. “We were broke. We were forced to sell our
home. Charge card collectors and creditors were our only steady callers and
vacations were something only other people took.”
After spending a number of years in network marketing watching a parade of
‘good deals’ come and go, I was not particularly impressed when my friend
Harold Hine called about yet another company named Matol. We were certainly not
looking for something ‘to do’. Joan was busy as the Administrator of a
Medical Clinic. We were already involved in two other businesses, so there was
no time for yet another.
I politely told Harold that we were not interested. He reminded me that I had
told him often enough to keep an open mind and at least look, so there I was,
hung by the tongue. I agreed to look. He sent me what materials he had,
photocopies and a homemade movie. And look I did, again and again. A ‘little
voice’ deep down inside said maybe this is it, maybe this is real, maybe…
There was a meeting coming up. Joan and I were not able to attend so I asked my
good friend Hal Harris to go and check it out and let us know what went on. Hall
called back, said he was impressed with the honesty and integrity of J.F. Robert
Bolduc and Karl Jurak and that he wouldn’t mind being involved and would I be
his sponsor. (Hal has integrity too.)
I called Harold and said we may be able to do something with this new company
and would he sponsor us. He did. We ordered product and our new business was
launched. Then disaster struck! We couldn’t get enough product. The product
that was already out in the field was working its MAGIC. The product was truly
amazing. All we had to do was get it into the hands of the people and let it go
to work. We begged, borrowed and scrounged from other Distributors. We found
enough to carry us through the crisis.
In January, 1986, another good friend, Lloyd Bloomfield, and I attended a
corporate meeting where we were assured the ‘glitch’ Matol had encountered
with supply had been taken care of and was history. We learned more about the
merits of the product, the company’s plans for the future and potential
serious income. The product was still out there working its MAGIC so we went to
work with it. Two months later we received our first Royalty Override check for
$702 with a hand written statement. Our fourth check was $2,826, Matol’s
compensation plan was working! MONEY GIVES YOU FREEDOM!
As Distributors we exercised our right to purchase at a discount and our right
to sign up others. It was a privilege to do so. Then it became an obligation and
responsibility to share the product and the plan with as many people as
possible. We became emotionally involved. We drove thousands of miles and talked
to hundreds of people, was it worth it? Of course it was.
Our Matol checks became ‘serious income’, $8,000, $12,000, $16,000 and more
per month, so we started holding meetings. The ‘little voice’ was right.
Matol did have MAGIC. Just how much, we were to find out. Eighteen months later
we were debt free and for all intents and purposes financially independent for
the rest of our lives.
Over the years Matol has paid us several million dollars. To say our success was
because of us would be misleading. We give all the credit where it is due, to
the product. It’s not how good we are, it’s how good the product and this
company is.
Being debt free has allowed us tremendous freedom. Money gives you freedom, the
freedom to make choices. It gives you time, the time to spend in those areas you
decide to give attention to. We build our business now because we want to, not
because we have to. Many changes have taken place and the Magic is back!

in every fridge, we will have done our job. We look forward to many years of
